Knaus
Berry Farm
I recently went on a car
ride with my friend Marie. We drove south towards the
wild city of Miami.
Skirting the city we follow Route 1.
We drove about 40 minutes on the prowl for a street called
Coconut Palm I recall.
A quick right turn took us down a
long and narrow country road, as if we were never in a
city at all. The street was lined with towering Royal
Palm the must have been planted long ago.
Behind the
palms were groves of Mangoes with their arms sprouting the
new growth of the season. A few miles in, we arrived at
the Knaus Berry Farm.
"Pick Your Own Strawberries", was the sign that blew in
the wind. A dirt paved parking lot filled with cars and
blankets spread out. There were locals with boxes of
things. Purchases they made which will never make it to
their homes. Marie and I walked into this non-descript
building filled with customers and employees wearing the
garb of the Old German Baptist Brethren. Beautiful they
were in a simplistic way. Tables of fresh picked
strawberries and fruits. Vegetables fresh from the
garden. There where whole white onions, cucumbers and
more. Fresh herbs which I usually complain are to
costly, were in large bunches for under two dollars. What
a beautiful place this was turning out to be.
One turn to the left and there was heaven in my face. A
bakery counter with faces all smiles. Out came my camera
and as you will see, that the 24 clicks would never do.
Over I went with trepidation that I would never again go
out and see the sky. The bountiful fruits had not filled
my need, but these lovely bakers, well she know what I
need!
The customers clamored and never gave in, until
they received there pastries and pies. Herb sticks,
cinnamon rolls and black-bottom cake are the most
requested foods. In addition there is homemade bread,
pecan pies and rolls to adore. In addition to all these
delights there is jelly and jam. A special treat is Knaus
Berry Farms Strawberry freezer jam.
I strongly encourage that you stop bye to meet Janet Flory
and
Barbara. They will attend to your every culinary
need. There they will tell you about their famous
cinnamon rolls. Listen to them closely because they
don't lie. Those rolls are a hit and standing right
there, I observed customer after customer buying no less
than two dozen at a clip!
One customer exclaimed "you better be ware, that Saturdays
there is always a line way beyond the door". Marie
and I surely know why!
