Overview: Goldeneye is a magical place, a 17 acre retreat nestled among tropical forests and lush gardens on a high bluff overlooking the Caribbean Sea. It is renowned as the former home of "James Bond" novelist, Ian Fleming, who spent nearly 20 winters at this idyllic spot, penning 14 of his famous "007" thrillers there. His hideaway is now available as an Island Outpost resort, providing simple luxury and casual comfort in an idyllic setting.

Unique Features: The resort comprises five private villas: Fleming's original three-bedroom home, along with four other villas, varying from one to three bedroom units. The entire property is available as one rentable package, or guests may choose the Fleming House or the individual villas.

Past guests have been invited to plant a tree during their stay to contribute to the growth of the grounds: among those who have participated are Martha Stewart, Jim Carrey, Christy Turlington, Quincy Jones, Harry Belafonte and Naomi Campbell. These trees can be found throughout the property and are marked by small plaques.

Accommodations - Goldeneye Main House:

The Ian Fleming House / Main House (three-bedrooms)

007/Master bedroom features a king size bed with indoor bathroom plus an outdoor garden courtyard off the bedroom with a clawfoot bathtub and shower platform, all surrounded by a bamboo fencing and tropical foliage: the ultimate in island luxury.

008/Middle bedroom features two twin beds with an indoor bathroom, plus an outdoor courtyard off the bedroom with a clawfoot bathtub and shower platform, surrounded by bamboo fencing and tropical foliage.

009/End bedroom features a queen size bed with indoor bathroom plus an outdoor courtyard off the bedroom with a clawfoot bathtub and shower platform, surrounded by bamboo fencing and tropical foliage.

Both 008 and 009 adjoin a cut stone courtyard and lilypond with exotic fish.

The décor in the Fleming villa reflects a tropical style with Indonesian influences, featuring high ceilings, large bamboo couches and four-poster beds, lush batik fabrics, Indonesian artwork and bamboo mats. High ceilings and large operable louvre windows encourage the flow of fresh sea breezes throughout the house, while air conditioning is available in the bedrooms.

The master bedroom is entered through the living area and faces the sea, whereas the other two bedrooms are entered through the internal courtyard. The master bedroom features Ian Fleming's original writing desk, made from Jamaican Blue Mahoe. From the living room one can enjoy sweeping vistas of the nearby reef and ocean beyond. An outdoor cut stone terrace framed by twin almond trees is accessible through the sunken garden, offering alfresco dining and entertaining on the cliff edge overlooking a secluded sandy cove.

Adjoining the Fleming Villa is a large media room with a wide projection screen, surround sound, satellite TV and an 8' x 15' cushioned lounging area along with a full library of James Bond and other videos and DVDs.

Guests of the main house have private access to the cove below the cliffs, and to a free-form pool fronting the media room. This unique pool has a gradual beach-like entry, sloping down to wide comfortable steps, and a 30 ft. long lap area.

The Goldeneye Village:

Villa 1 (one bedroom): affectionately named Honey Chile, this villa is nestled under a giant Banyan tree hedged with groves of Chinese fan palms and hibiscus, comprising one large bedroom with a queen size bed, living room, and indoor bathroom facilities with outdoor bamboo shower. A separate living, dining, and kitchen area open onto a secluded cut stone patio adjoining the private cove, making this the natural choice for guests to use in conjunction with the Ian Fleming villa. Rented independently for honeymooners and those seeking privacy, this villa also has easy access to Low Cay Beach alongside the ocean canal.

Villa 2 (two bedrooms): This beautiful two-story stone and wood villa is situated on a bluff by the sea surrounded by graceful lawns with a private patio facing Low Cay Beach and the sunset. Downstairs is a comfortable lounge area with a well-stocked bar, television, stereo, board games and indoor bathroom. A separate bedroom cottage named Tiffany Case features a queen size bed, indoor bathroom and outdoor bamboo shower. Domino, the upstairs bedroom, features a king-size bed and indoor bathroom with breathtaking views from the balcony overlooking the sea.

Villa 3 (three bedrooms): A colorful cluster of cottages set amidst flamboyant shade trees on a cliff edge overlooking the aquamarine ocean canal and Low Cay beach. Romanova, Vesper and Solitaire are individual cottages with access to a covered communal dining area and bar, and an entertainment lounge with video and satellite TV facilities. Romanova and Solitaire feature queen size beds while Vesper has twin beds. Fronting the lounge area is an outdoor cut-stone dining deck with steps leading down to a secluded seaside patio.

Royal Palm (two-bedrooms): Royal Palm is available only with the rental of another villa. Intended for guests' families and friends, Royal Palm features two wood cottages: one with a king size bed with indoor bathroom and another separate one bedroom cottage with queen size bed and separate bathroom facilities adjoining an outside bamboo shower. The villa is surrounded by lush tropical foliage and is situated above a large outdoor deck on the water's edge.

All villas (except Royal Palm) feature complete kitchens, and both indoor and outdoor dining areas. All rooms have plush cotton bathrobes and thick towels, assorted books and magazines, CD player and CD collection, and direct dial telephones.

The décor of the villas suits the natural habitat with lush batik fabrics, and mosquito netting in the bedrooms; the work of local artisans and craftsman is evident in the molded sinks, outdoor tubs, and interior detailing.

Activities: For those seeking adventure, a variety of activities are available at Goldeneye. These include jet skiing, kayaking, glass bottom boat and ocean canoe rides, snorkeling, fishing, hiking, biking and tennis on a flood lit court.

Additional activities include: access to Low Key Beach, a secluded beach exclusively for Goldeneye guests; the main house has its own private cove, while Oracabessa Bay is only a few minutes away by car, jet ski or boat, is open to tourists and locals alike, offering a bar, restaurant and outdoor concert venue.

Local excursions can be arranged to Noel Coward's former villa Firefly, exotic Dunn's River Falls, nearby Harmony Hall Art Gallery or rafting on the Rio Grande. Even though there is plenty to do, it is tempting to simply sit back and indulge your senses.

History: Having first fallen in love with Jamaica in the 1940s, Ian Fleming built Goldeneye on a bluff overlooking a secluded cove. He once wrote, "Would these books have ever been written if I had not been living in the gorgeous vacuum of a Jamaican holiday? I doubt it." Fleming also hosted many celebrities at his island retreat, including Errol Flynn, Elizabeth Taylor, Evelyn Waugh, Donald Sutherland, Cecil Beaton and Noel Coward, whose own Jamaican hideaway, Firefly in Galina is nearby - now a museum and managed by Island Outpost.

Meal Plans: All food and beverages are included in the room rate. Authentic Jamaican cuisine is prepared to guests' liking daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Fresh fruit juices, sodas and mixed drinks are available continuously.

Special Services: Each villa is assigned a personal staff member who takes pride in attending to every possible guest need; custom services are Goldeneye's specialty.
