Theresa, I have never made Vanilla Powder, but I found this for you...

"Vanilla powder is made by pulverizing the whole dried beans to a fine powder. Read the list of ingredients to make sure it is pure, as sweeteners and fillers are sometimes added. Vanilla in this state is well suited to incorporation into liquid-sensitive mixtures, such as some icings and melted chocolate, where even a small amount of liquid could create a problem; and into uncooked mixtures in which vanilla seeds would not have a chance to impart their flavour evenly and thoroughly. In addition, the flavour of vanilla powder is more intense than that of most extracts and does not dissipate even with prolonged cooking. For these reasons, it can be used to an advantage in many cooked custards, sauces and baked goods. Vanilla powder will keep indefinitely, stored in an opaque, airtight container in a cool, dry place."

Let me know if you try it!

Theresa,
If you ever need to find out anything about anything, just go to www.google.com and type in the main words like in your case,"vanilla powder" and you will get millions of listing about any info. you need! Llizard taught me this and I believe Jackie taught Gary this and before you know it, you will sound "like an expertise" on everything just like me and Gary Alan!! Actually, you are a real expert on food! I have to admit, you have the best recipes here and everyone will agreed with me!!

I buy vanilla powder at a german speciality store. They also have orange, lemon, etc. It's perfect if are whipping cream and want to add flavor but not to add liquid, to sprinkle on a snack cake like powdered sugar (lightly), add to a milkshake, mix with cinammon & sugar to sprinkle on cookies or toast, brown it slightly and sprinkle on pudding. What were you going to use it for?

Scroll up to GaryAlan's post to see one method. I have no idea if it works - I've never done it....

Here is another recipe for powdered vanilla that uses sugar:
http://www.recipegoldmine.com/season/season133.html

According to
http://www.baking911.com/pantry_flavorings.htm

quote:
The powdered form should also be kept in a tightly sealed container, or in a sealed plastic bag to prevent moisture from entering. Powdered vanilla, in addition, should never be stored in a glass jar. Depending on what was previously stored in the jar, there might be remnant smells and the vanilla will absorb those smells, and will thus weaken its flavor.

Hope that helps.
